For this record, Martha collaborated with a variety of Canadian artists, including Ron Sexsmith, Will Whitwham (of the Wilderness of Manitoba), Alister Johnson (of Grand Analog), Hill Kourkoutis (of Hill and the Sky Heroes), and Mark Gane, her Muffins bandmate.
The album was also funded by a PledgeMusic crowdsourcing campaign. Having reached her funding goal, Martha says she will donate 10% of proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease herself, Martha explained, “I found on my solo album I could say so much by doing so little. I let the songs breathe.”
Due to her health issues, Martha will not embark on an extensive tour. That’s all the more reason to catch her at the Rivoli in Toronto on June 25 for her release show.
