December22Today in 2002, Former Clash singer and guitarist, Joe Strummer died of a suspected heart attack, which stemmed from an undiagnosed heart condition. He was just 50 years old.

Born John Graham Mellor, Strummer was instrumental in such classic Clash songs as ‘London Calling’, ‘Rock the Casbah’, and ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’.

Strummer was also instrumental in setting up Future Forests, which works to plant trees in various parts of the world to combat global warming.

In 2003, when The Clash was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt, Dave Grohl, Pete Thomas and Tony Kanal performed ‘London Calling’ in tribute to Strummer.
