December 19, 1998

December19Today in 1998, the Rainbow Room in New York closed its doors. The supper and dance club had been one of the most famous clubs in the U.S. for 64 years.

The gilded, glass-walled club was located on the 65th floor of the RCA building – which now holds the NBC Studios – in New York, and boasted some of the best views of the city.

The spot was a haven for celebrities – Bob Dylan and Frank Sinatra once stopped by the club for drinks on the same night. Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones went to the club to watch Marianne Faithful perform, while singer Rosemary Clooney got married at the Rainbow Room.
