The song spent five weeks in the top spot, and marked Gaye’s 15th solo hit. It also became his first U.K. No. 1 single in March 1969.

The track was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong in 1966. It was first recorded by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, and Gladys Knight & the Pips.
