April 4, 1964

April4On this day in 1964, The Beatles were dominating the Billboard Charts. They had the No. 1 (‘Can’t Buy Me Love’), No. 2 (‘Love Me Do’), No. 3 (‘Roll Over Beethoven’), No. 4 (‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’) and No. 5 (‘Please Please Me’) spots on the U.S. singles chart.

It was the first and only time any recording act has ever attained the achievement.

The Beatles also had nine other singles on the Top 100, for a total of 14 singles at the same time. That, too, is still a record.
