The Blues Brothers – together again

Today, unfortunately, marks the 30th anniversary of John Belushi’s tragic and untimely death.

But, what better way to celebrate the life of the comedian than to reunite the infamous Blues Brothers Band.

The Blues Brothers Band was founded in 1978 by Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, originally as part of an SNL sketch. The sketch was almost as popular as the band, which began to take on life outside of the show. The band, which was fronted by “Joliet” Jake Blues (played by Belushi) and Elwood J. Blues (played by Aykroyd), released an album in 1978, called Briefcase Full of Blues, followed by a feature film, The Blues Brothers, in 1980.

blog-5March2012-photo1Tonight, Aykroyd and Belushi’s widow, Judith Belushi-Pisano,  produced the Blues Brothers reunion show, which is taking place at the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet, Illinois.

On stage will be Paul Shaffer, Tom “Bones” Malone, “Blue” Lou Marini, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, and, while the Ralto theatre won’t confirm anything, it’s a pretty good bet that Aykroyd will be there, too.

If you can’t make it to the American Mid-West – fear not! The Bros are streaming the concert on Facebook.
