Jacks (and Jills) of all trades. . . .

A friend showed me this video today, which got me thinking – wow! Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a great voice!

Which got me thinking some more : hmm, there are some actors who have surprisingly good voices!

Which then made me want to compile a list.

This is that list.

Top Five Actors Who Have Surprisingly Good Singing Voices:

5. Robert Downey Jr.

I’m not really sure when Downey recorded this rendition of Joni Mitchell’s infamous ‘River’, but I’m damn happy he did. He also released an album in 2004, called The Futurist, which I may now need to find. . .

PS – Don’t be alarmed; the video is a black screen the whole way through.

4. Meryl Streep

I mean, I really should have known: Meryl Streep can do anything.

This is from her performance in the 1983 flick, Silkwood.

PS – I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve been told that this video ruins the ending. Consider closing your eyes.

3. Katey Sagal

Before Katey Sagal was Peggy Bundy on Married… With Children, and before she was Gemma Teller on Sons of Anarchy, she was a singer. She was a member of The Group With No Name in the late ’70s, Bette Midler’s back-up in the early ’80s, and hasperformed backing vocals on records for Gene Simmons and Olivia Newton-John.

She’s released two albums – Well… in 1994, and Room in 2004 (which may disqualify her from this list, but I’m not telling if you don’t. . . .). She’s also contributed to the Sons of Anarchy soundtrack.

2. Eugene Levy

Another of our own, Eugene Levy, proving he’s not just another funny guy from Second City.

This particular video is from the 2003 mockumentary, A Mighty Wind, where Levy plays folk singer Mitch Cohen alongside Catherine O’Hara.

1. Steven Seagal

Yes, you read that right – it’s Steven Seagal, the same Steven Seagal who has made such classics as On Deadly Ground, Under Siege 2, Half Past Dead, Out for a Kill, and Today You Die.

But the man can sing.

Seagal released his first album, Songs from the Crystal Cave, in 2005, and followed it with Mojo Priest, which he toured the U.S. and Europe on.

He’s also a 7th-dan black belt in Aikido, owns an energy drink that bears his name, has a dude ranch in Colorado, and is the Reserve Deputy Chief of the Sheriff’s Office of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
